What is interaction
Interaction
is an action followed by a reaction to it.
This action – reaction may continue as a cycle
for many
times. There must be at least one action
that may trigger at least one or many more reactions. There must be at least
two seperate identifiable entities to interact with each other.
Each
interaction requires a number of prerequisites that set the character of the
action – reaction relations. The
prerequisites of interaction may be set by the environment in which interaction
happens and by the partners. The statute
of the interaction partners are strong determiners of the interaction
character.
Interaction
is reciprocal action or influence. In
another meaning interaction is communication or direct involvement with someone
or something[1].
A large
system operator may interact with the system and may have to communicate with
other system operators. A pilot interact
with the airplane and with his/her copilot and the air traffic
controllers. Actually the system
definition should include all the operators who contribute to the distributed
cognition.
“An
interaction, grossly speaking, is a transaction between two entities, typically
an exchange of information, but it can also be an exchange of goods or
services. […] It is this sort of exchange that interaction designers try to
engender in their work. Interaction designers design for the possibility of
interaction. The interaction itself takes place between people, machines, and
systems, in a variety of combinations.” (p.4) [2].
There may be
different types of interaction depending on the interaction environment and
partners.
